AEDM Day 13

Hello again!  Day 13 is a few sketches I did to fill up my sketchbook.  More Car butt drawings.  These are the last three pages in this sketchbook and I am happy that I finished another sketchbook for 2016.

 I have been dragging this large 9×12 sketchbook around for a couple of weeks.  I embellished some pages, and others like these sketches, are just exercises in keeping the eye trained.  

These car butt sketches were done while my husband was driving, obviously.  It’s a bit of challenge to sketch in a car.  The pen jiggles and skips, but that leads to what we artists call “happy accidents.”  Cars are moving targets and they change lanes or turn off the road so you either have to continue your drawing with a different car or abandon it because you can’t turn an SUV shape into a Sentra.

  Thanks again to my friend Helen, from across “the pond,” for showing that you can accomplish much even from short jaunts in the car.

It’s a Great Day in America Day 2 – How about picking up the phone?

It’s a beautiful November Day.  The leaves are in their full autumn color.  The nights are clear and crisp.

We popped out to pick up a few things, football is the chit chat of the day.  People saw my husband’s shirt and were asking what he thought about today’s game.  Business as usual.  He’s a Jets fan, pity him.

The sky didn’t fall, however there was a bad earthquake in New Zealand.  I saw this as I checked the Weather Channel app for recording today’s weather in my “morning pages.” I have been getting my “news” from TWC.  

To rid myself from toxic information,  I closed off all notifications for Facebook on my phone and actually had a nice quiet day yesterday.  Staying away from toxic slanted media is a good thing to do, too.

Facebook is great for keeping up with family and friends who aren’t close by, but nothing beats a letter or a phone call.   

So today is “Pick up the phone day.”  Try to call someone today that you haven’t spoken to in while but you chat with on Facebook.  Or, like my husband would tell his employees, pick up the phone instead of 5000 emails to discuss something.  It actually takes more time to do something by email or text than to just pick up a phone to discuss it! 

AEDM DAY 12

Yesterday was Veteran’s Day.  Members of my family have been in the military.  Some fought in WWII. I remember the Vietnam War and not understanding why we were there and why people in the military were not looked at in a favorable manner.  They weren’t fighting because they wanted to, they were there because our country sent them there. 

Fortunately now vets are honored.  Starbucks was giving vets free coffee.  Other places were honoring vets in other ways.

My friend Joan did a wonderful watercolor yesterday of a Revolutionary War soldier’s grave that I didn’t even know was in our town.  I was in awe of the sacrifices he made to create this country.  We aren’t just Americans, we a patriots. We are the legacy of these brave men and women who created this county “of the people, by the people and for the people.”

I started this yesterday and it was so windy I brought it home and tweaked it this morning.

Happy Veterans Day every day.

It’s a great Day

I woke up this morning feeling that it was time to take action.  Avoid those in the media who are not helping anything. Basically, doing my part one step at a time.

The sketch below is a repeat but I felt it summed things up.

If you like what I have to say and my thoughts, please share them and let’s all work together.

“It’s a great day in America.”

Here’s what I am going to do as my part in making America great again. I believe we all can work together to make America great. The leader of the country manages it to the best of their ability but it is up to us to make it all work. No manager or CEO wants to hear complaints or people whining. What they like and respect are people who present ideas and solutions. Instead of complaining, how about submitting ideas to Mr Trump to make America great? He said he wants to tap our potential. Let’s show the world we CAN be great. Instead of protesting, how about community Focus groups. Sit down and come up with ideas to solve problems and work with our politicians. Request an audience and try to find common ground. STOP watching the media. Stop fighting among each other. Today is the first day of “It’s a great day in America!” How about we start with everyone smiling and just saying “hello” to each other. #greatdayinamerica #payitforward

AEDM DAY 11

I have been frequently going over to Starbucks to sketch.  It’s nice to get out of the studio for a little while.  I have been trying to fill up this larger sketchbook since it only has a few pages left.  It always seems like the last few pages take the longest.  Here’s one of those sketches…
