Today’s Sktchy #56

Today was the cleanup day after the party.  We had to put all the furniture back where it belongs, put away all of the party appliances and unused supplies.   The chair has moved to the living room for now.  We may have to use it once GoT season 7 comes on this Spring.  Maybe we ‘ll throw a GoT party.

Anyway, I did this a little while ago.  I saw this reference photo of a raccoon on someone’s steps and thought his stance was more suited to defending his stash….

So here is “BACK OFF! This is MY trash can!”

Today’s sktchy is sculpture, kinda

“Game of Thrones”. #56

 Not a sketch tonight, more of a sculpture… made this chair for my husband’s 60th birthday. It took more time to find the parts than it did to make the chair. I might have to use this chair as a prop for sketch night!  The chair is even  more awesome in person….

Billy Joel Concert and today’s Sktchy

Last night, John and I attended the Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden.  I haven’t seen ol’ Billy in concert since the early ’80’s.  

I managed to do a few sketches which I am happy about.  I used a Pilot Mini fountain pen that had not waterproof ink in it so I had to be careful when applying color.

Lots of fun, didn’t play Captain Jack….bummed about that, he always played it in Philly, but overall, he’s a lot of fun!

Fountain pen maintenance day

Fountain pens must either be used daily or they need to be flushed weekly.  Today was flushing day…..shamefully, a few pens needed a cold bath today….however, all are well and happy now.

Today, I took a J Harbin mini fountain pen on a road test.  After I flushed it I filled it and used it to sketch this chicken…..

I love the color of this chicken and may revisit this subject another time. I have had this little fountain pen for a while and it is a bit banged up but It performed well when sketching this. I used to have Pilot pink ink in it and never used it. I cleaned and reloaded it with Noodlers Bullet Proof Ink and as you can see, it handled the drawing quite well and it didn’t run when watercolor was added.

  

Today’s sketches

This morning I went out and sat by the water to do this.  I really need to tweak my car set up because it is a awkward to paint in the car.  It is still too chilly for me to sit outside especially when recovering from being sick, so sitting in the car keeps me out of the elements.    The sun was out but was slowly fading…I made the best of my time out.  

This was painted with goauche over a grey acrylic underpainting.  The grey underpainting made this pretty dark but I like how the underpainting has the “feel” of how the muted winter day looks.

“Waiting for the summer”  was done in a Moleskine watercolor sketchbook with gouache and fine tuned with color pencil.  It’s one of the ferries that goes to Fire Island.


The next sketxh took me about 15 minutes in my morning pages and was done with ball point pens….

Haiku drawings

Haiku drawing….exercise where you draw a subject using just 7 lines and you draw the same subject 5 times. I switched it up by using 7 colors so it was easier to actually see all 7 lines….


Another set of Haiku drawings and I am calling it a night…..I like the full black ink drawing in the upper left corner the best…which is your favorite?
