Friendly Face Day 10

I still have to post yesterday’s “sad” face, which was put on the back burner because of an unplanned technology replacement.

It is amazing how we have become so dependent on technology that we can’t do without it and when something needs to be replaced, life gets put on hold until the situation is remedied. Even art depends on technology. The very phone I am typing this post on enables the world to see what I did today!

Today’s Friendly Face is a “culture different from my own” and one of my favorite reference photos from Sktchy, Sureka Kasinath.

This is the raw sketch without digital touch ups…

Friendly Faces Day 5

As predicted I am already winging it. I used a reference photo from Sktchy but since the Prompt for today is “round,” I made the girl’s head round instead of oval.

Friendly Faces #3

Here is my third Friendly Faces sketch. The idea of this challenge is to create characters and I wanted to use gouache for this so these are starting out leaning towards portraits but I know how they’ll look as the challenge goes on, lol. They’ll be characters all right. Lol.

This is in my homemade sketchbook made with Stonehenge paper, using gouache and watercolor pencils.

Firefly Two Page Spread

Here is a two page spread from the Firefly story by Zoë Tucker. I started to do the whole spread in color but I really liked the black and white sketch that I did, especially after I blew it up to actual book size. I tweaked the sketch to a final drawing and added the firefly and some creatures and this is my mixed color and B&W version.

I will probably finish the color version another time…..
