Autumn, with its soups, stews, chilis, baked dishes, roasts and other cool season foods, are flavored with fragrant spices and herbs whose aromas are the scents of the season. Spices are warm and cozy and add dimension to foods and beverages.

Wild mushrooms
I did a little research for this one. I am interested in mushrooms and even learning to forage. I know that looking for mushrooms is something that requires experience because mushrooms can be poisonous if you pick the wrong ones. I am fascinated that dogs are trained to find truffles, lol. I always thought thatContinue reading “Wild mushrooms”
Pumpkin cookies
These prompts are making me hungry.
Spicy cocktail
This prompt could be interpreted several ways and I opted for autumn spices. This festive cocktail recipe, tucked away in my stash, comes from Dan Cregg and Kathryn Scinto who were the former owners of Quench Wines in Patchogue, NY. Kathryn and Dan taught John and I a lot about wines. We found them bothContinue reading “Spicy cocktail”
Cinnamon roll
Ok, this project or challenge to complete a food related item every day in October is making me hungry for the things on the list. And I am trying to behave. But Cinnamon Rolls? Good thing there’s not a bakery near me. The inspiration for this illustration came from my sketchbook…
Chestnuts
Oooo I can’t wait until chestnuts start coming to the supermarket. Roasting them at home is well worth it.
Apple pie
This one was a lot of fun. What’s better than homemade apple pie except, maybe pumpkin pie.
Maple tart
The prompt for today is maple tarts. We use Costco’s Maple Syrup. Maple tarts aren’t vegan but I use maple syrup in a lot of vegan recipes. You can’t beat Costco’s price either.
Figs
I actually had to go to Publix to buy figs for reference. Not that I am complaining. Figs are good for you, like dates. I wish I had a fig tree. I love when you get a cheese platter at a cafe and they have figs on the platter. Hmmmm…I think I’ll go grab aContinue reading “Figs”
Mulled Wine
One of wintry beverages made for cold nights is mulled wine. You can buy the spices in a spice bag or packet at a specialty shop, wine store or sometimes the local supermarkets have them. It’s perfect for sipping by a hot fire or when you attending an outdoor autumn/winter gathering. When I think ofContinue reading “Mulled Wine”
