My sisters’ birthdays today

My poor sisters have the misfortune of having 9/11 as their birthday. I’ll never forget that day back 2001. It was a gorgeous Tuesday morning. My youngest sister was getting married that coming Saturday. It was shaping up to be a nice week.

I remember stepping away from my desk and when I came back my coworker said something happened at the World Trade Center. I was like “AGAIN?!” I remember the tension and confusion as we were trying to get more information. We had techs working in that area. We called our coworkers in NYC to ensure their safety. I remember going upstairs to another company’s break room, where I stood with my friend Mike D, and watched the towers fall in shocked horror. Mike was also my manager and he sent us all home. It was horrible.

My sister’s wedding was more somber than a wedding should be. We had fun, but we also discussed the tragedy.

And now we live in the aftermath of that day.

This postcard to my mom is a toast to my two sisters who have their birthdays today. (I had to call mom to remind her to call my sisters😂.)

Happy Birthday Rose and Sue and here’s to you!🎉💐💕🍸🎂…..Eat, drink and be merry but don’t hit the floor! Lol.

Quinacridone Gold Kitty

This kitty is from one of my starter kitty piles. I make a bunch similar to doing a mono print and then embellish them later. Doing a bunch this way gives me some inspiration and pre-started kitties that I can do while in a coffee shop or on the beach, where this one was completed.

Sometimes a different environment prompts a different take on how I embellish a kitty. Take this kitty for instance, the tear drop water shape was inspired by the ocean. The hearts are the result of seeing couples walking on the beach. And the red? Uhm, I only had red, yellow and blue Tombows with me.😂

Enjoy!

The Dockmaster

My father-in-law is 89 years old and still works at the local boat ramp. He works because he wants to, it keeps him busy and active.

This is the hut where he spends his working hours. It has A/C for those hot days.

I sketched it this evening when I was out with my local sketch club. Everyone else sketched over by the water…..I was the rebel.

Belt of Venus or Gone fishin’

Sometimes people ask where I get my inspiration. I do some brainstorming and I jot down lots of ideas but they don’t always turn into anything. Then there are the ideas that are there, right in front of me.

This kitty is one of those spur of the moment ideas. John and I went to the beach this evening. I brought some premade kitties to embellish; I brought books and magazines, so I was prepared for whatever I felt like doing. I am currently reading “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.” I try to make time for a bit of recreational reading and I was hoping to indulge in reading my book.

I was working on one of my premade kitties and I looked up and the lightbulb came on. At first, I didn’t pay the fishing rod much attention except to see if the guy it belonged to caught a fish. He wasn’t having much luck. I was finishing my kitty when I glanced up again and saw the beautiful sky behind it with the Belt of Venus so I whipped out my watercolors and a blank postcard and did this little sketch of kitty fishing.

I included a photo with the scene behind it.
