The favorite beverage of the season isn’t just plain jane old coffee and tea. No. It has to be dressed up with frills, flavors and a lot of calories. Every time I go to Starbucks, or I go to the app to do an order for coffee, I think of Tom Hanks in “You’ve GotContinue reading “Pumpkin Latte”

Inktober, Drawtober, Artober, TheyDrawtober, Drawlloween…whatever
It’s October…again…and that must mean it’s time to do art! Ink, pencil, paint, digital. You name it, you’ll see it this month. I am not sure who really started the whole October challenge. Inktober was started as a way for one artist, Jake Parker, to challenge himself and his friends. Drawlloween was a way MabContinue reading “Inktober, Drawtober, Artober, TheyDrawtober, Drawlloween…whatever”
P is for Pretzel
I belong to an illustrator’s group and we recently had an A-Z challenge. I played with all sorts of lettering… I thought of all sorts of ideas, notes jotted, ideas written out…. but couldn’t get anything on paper until we did a Zoom last week and a pretzel was one of the objects for usContinue reading “P is for Pretzel”

Firefly Two Page Spread
Here is a two page spread from the Firefly story by Zoë Tucker. I started to do the whole spread in color but I really liked the black and white sketch that I did, especially after I blew it up to actual book size. I tweaked the sketch to a final drawing and added theContinue reading “Firefly Two Page Spread”
Firefly Again
This past week was Poses week. I revamped my character again. I actually like trying different things to see what works. Different approaches, different color palettes. Shake things up a bit. This course is for portfolio building so why not push things harder to see where I can go with it? The color palette forContinue reading “Firefly Again”
Firefly – Expressions
Here is my firefly, Lampy. I was going to put more faces but I like the simplicity of just the 5. From these I can do a range of in between expressions. This is a mixture of traditional and digital work. Enjoy!
Lightning bug Round 2
I had started this version last week but I was getting down to the deadline and had to switch to digital. Normally I like to do the traditional first and then tweak it after I scan it. This was done in my Innovative Journal with acrylics that I refill with Arches Text Wove paper. TheContinue reading “Lightning bug Round 2”
Baby Firefly
I am taking an illustration course and the main character is a young firefly. We had to turn in our character today. I did this little guy in multiple ways and I was tweaking him up to the last minute because once I really got on the roll, more ideas popped into my head. TheContinue reading “Baby Firefly”
Shoes
Today’s prompt is shoes. When I first sat down to draw shoes, which I have done many times before…I realized that my wardrobe now consisted of various flip flops. I rarely wear shoes anymore except for the few rare evenings when it’s cool here or when I go for my walk. Otherwise I’m holding itContinue reading “Shoes”
