This is an assignment from a Carla Sonheim class. This was my first one of this project and I have some postcards cut to do more when I am sitting by the TV. I am actually trying to get OUT of the studio more, believe it or not. This assignment is all random and you really don’t plan it, you just go with it and use what ever you have on hand.
Here is the two page spread that I submitted for my class and what I previewed in yesterday’s post:
One week if class left….
The text is from a story written by Zoe Tucker.
Here is the second character sheet with the little girl in the story. Her name is Bug and the balloon named Bob is her best friend
Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day. Cleopatra is our black kitty that we found, literally, on the street. Or she found us. She ran right up to me and was “no bigger than a bowtruckle.”
Cleo lives with my daughter in a nice house in Orlando. Cleo has been the inspiration for lots of my little vignettes and postcards upstaging Chloe and Mack on many occasions. Cleo thinks she is a Chihuahua and that’s ok. She looks at other cats like they have three heads.
To celebrate Cleo, here are some of my favorites for Black Cat Appreciation Day:
Here is my character pose submission for the Illustrating Children’s Book Course that I am taking to up my knowledge on illustration submissions.
Here is another version of my balloon character for the course I am taking. I got carried away the first week and did a bunch of them. The inspiration for this one was the Snow Punk in the movie “Jack Frost.”
Folks, I am working on putting a portfolio together and I am taking an illustrator’s workshop. My assignment this week is to take the character in the story and draw up a sheet with expressions for one of the characters. My character is a balloon named Bob.
Here is what I have so far….please, if you know my work well, suggestions are helpful. If you don’t, please scroll through my blog or Instagram to compare this to my other work. Comments would be extremely helpful. The original was done in pastel and then I tweaked it with Procreate. I have until Sunday to submit the piece but I held back to review it a little more.
Two of my grandsons saw it already and were able to guess the emotions. I guess I should have asked the 6 year old what he would add to this. LMAO
I have been busy working on a few projects that have deadlines, so I haven’t been on social media very much.
I finally tweaked this sketchbook so I could do the video of the completed book. This sketchbook is handmade. I usually use the Strathmore 9×12 watercolor paper for these 6×9 books. They don’t take much time to make and I love doing them!
The interior was done with pan pastels but I had to do the exterior with acrylic because pastels can rub off. That’s why there are dividers between the pages.
Enjoy the video!
