Urban Sketcher Symposium Final Day’s Sketches

This morning, I sketched the top of the Congress Hotel.  It’s a cool sign and it glows brightly when lit in the evening and I enjoyed the challenge of sketching it this morning. Then I moved on to sketch Lake Michigan.  I couldn’t leave Chicago without sketching the lake!  I was surprised how green itContinue reading “Urban Sketcher Symposium Final Day’s Sketches”

International Urban sketchers Symposium – Chicago Days 1 & 2

So here I am in Chicago, sketching with 575 other artists from 34 countries around the world. I am sitting at Congress and Michigan Ave while I am typing this, before I start another sketch. Here are a few photos of some of the sketches that I did.  I am meeting people from all overContinue reading “International Urban sketchers Symposium – Chicago Days 1 & 2”

Last but not least….

This sketch was the final sketch for this sketchbook.  It was a humid day and we found a shady pavilion on the East side of the causeway.  I saw this Jeep in front of me with an open hatch and sketched it. They had a lot of stuff in that car.  The trash can blockedContinue reading “Last but not least….”

Another sketch from Stuart, FL

Here is another sketch that I did from the waterfront park in Downtown Stuart.  It’s blissfully quiet this time of year.  I like that there are lots of different types of tropical palms and plants, there were lizards running around, and the ibis who was a little “put out” that we took over the picnicContinue reading “Another sketch from Stuart, FL”

Sketching while boating

While we were in south Florida, we visited with my sister and her family.   She and her husband had gotten a new boat and invited us to come out for a ride.  We stopped at a sandbar and I sketched this while sitting on the front of the boat.  There were storms around usContinue reading “Sketching while boating”

After the rain

This sketch was done after a storm was clearing out.  The sun was setting and color was just starting to pop before the sun set.  I was lucky with the timing of the evening color happening just as I was adding the watercolor. These are the same sail boats that I have been sketching, fromContinue reading “After the rain”

Rainy sketch and a rescue

This sketch was done from under the causeway.  The skies had opened up but we weren’t affected because we were parked under the bridge.  There were a couple of sailboats on the water. People live in these boats.  We tried to imagine living in a boat during a storm like this.  It rained so hardContinue reading “Rainy sketch and a rescue”

Sketching the everyday subject

John and I sit by the water all the time.  The view isn’t always the greatest, and on this day, it was grey and wet. Not many people out except the die hards like us who sit in their cars and wait for it to rain.  I love the afternoon storms in Florida.  You canContinue reading “Sketching the everyday subject”

Palm trees waiting for the storm

I finished a sketchbook while I was down here in Florida so  I will be posting sketches from that sketchbook over the next few days…. This sketch was done at the river front park in Downtown Stuart….I was facing the US 1 bridge that goes over the St Lucie river… It was stormy when weContinue reading “Palm trees waiting for the storm”
