Sketch from Wednesday

Good afternoon!

Below is a sketch I did with my sketch group this past week. We get together once a week, pick a subject and we bring in those items to sketch. I didn’t get much sketching time this week because I was taking care of some administrative stuff for the group, but I did get a little bit of time to do this sketch of a can of WD 40.

Also this week, I have been busy with projects and I have been making some sketchbooks. The second photo is of sketchbook covers of in progress. They were wet so the paper was still bubbly, but like stretched watercolor, it evens out as it dries. I blew up my own sketches to use as covers. I like to make my own sketchbooks because I can customize the sizes and the paper in them.

I will try to remember to post some of the finished books.

Have a good weekend!

5 minute sketch using my left hand

This gentleman, Rick N, is a very prolific contributor to Sktchy, the app I use for reference photos. I have sketched him a few times.

The object of this sketch was to use my non-dominant hand and sketch a person in 5 minutes. I prefer to use live people when I can but when that is not an option, I go to Sktchy for inspiration.

Here is Rick….

Last holiday surprise

Today’s post is my last surprise of the holidays.  I finished this map on 12/29 and I sent it along to They Draw and Travel.

I did a lot of research for this map.  There were three Miracle on 34th Street movies and in my opinion, the only one worth watching is the 1947 version.  It was exciting for me to find the actual house that Susan wanted Kris Kringle to get her for Christmas.  It is here on Long Island, sitting on it’s little hill,  humble to have been part of a Christmas classic.

Getting out to sketch….

Today, I went out with some friends to sketch at a local wildlife refuge. The refuge has many live and stuffed subjects to sketch. It is wayyy to cold to sketch outside so I went into the Nature Center to sketch the taxidermy animals. I sketched this possum and found out that possums can eat up to 5000 ticks in a season! Wow, We need more possums!

Yesterday I went to the NYC Urban Sketchers holiday party. The party was held in Jersey City and had an amazing view of Lower Manhattan.

Last but not least, blind folded fruit done with a ball point pen. I am taking Carla Sonheim’s 365 Year long class and this was yesterday’s assignment. I took her 365 class in 2017 and it was full of creative assignments.

11 day of Christmas

Ok. I was raised a Catholic. For us, the 12th day of Christmas is the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6th, aka Little Christmas. (For you folks in the UK, Happy 12th Night! ) Our tree stays up until the 6th.

When I was a kid, the tree didn’t go up until Christmas Eve and it came down on the 6th. Once I had kids of my own, with busy schedules, that tradition went out the window. Ours is a real tree that we cut fresh from a farm.

Here’s my 11th day of Christmas sketch, it is getting pretty crowded on the page…..the cat seems to like the pipers.

Tomorrow I will post Day 12. After that, I will have to think of another series to do.

These are done in my morning pages so that’s why there is a hint of a border here and there.
