Long beaked Cardinal

Another Imaginary Creature pulled out from the page. I drew the beak long and almost erased it, but left it because it isn’t supposed to be representational anyway. There’s a lot of angles to this guy. He uses them to hide in oak and elm trees. I also included what the page looked like beforeContinue reading “Long beaked Cardinal”

Georgie is about to have a bad day

I have a few “prepped” homemade sketchbooks with patterned backgrounds that I use for characters. Sort of like a staged background. Today I used the background to randomly “find” a character. This guy almost jumped off the page. But then he looks very terrier-ish so that would be normal for a terrier. Georgie is aContinue reading “Georgie is about to have a bad day”

Final Inchie Day

The final prompt is “DETAIL.” One of the things that Amy Maricle encourages during the challenge is to do multiple versions and then see if they can be part of a larger piece. Firefly – Expressions

Here is my firefly, Lampy. I was going to put more faces but I like the simplicity of just the 5. From these I can do a range of in between expressions. This is a mixture of traditional and digital work. Enjoy!

Lightning bug Round 2

I had started this version last week but I was getting down to the deadline and had to switch to digital. Normally I like to do the traditional first and then tweak it after I scan it. This was done in my Innovative Journal with acrylics that I refill with Arches Text Wove paper. TheContinue reading “Lightning bug Round 2”

Happy Easter

Happy Easter to everyone! Higgins loves challenges, puzzles and reading Agatha Christie books. He’s very good at helping his friends with solving mysteries.

People in the Neighborhood #2

It was a beautiful Spring day. Many people came outside to enjoy the warming sun, birds singing and the cherry blossoms in the air. This series of postcards were inspired by a Lesson in Carla Sonheim’s 2021 Year Long Class.

People in the Neighborhood #1

This series of postcards were inspired by a Lesson in Carla Sonheim’s 2021 Year Long Class. There are 4 total which I will be posting over the next couple of days. Kurt, Carrie and Sally decided that they wanted to go on an Adventure. Carrie’s dog, Melville and Kurt’s kitty, Boomer, joined them.
