Well Paint the Great South Bay is a wrap. It went very well and I even made it on the cover of our local newspaper. We sold paintings, we got tacos and ice cream for sketches, whose better than us? Now I am on my way to Chincoteague to participate in their plein airContinue reading “Irma”

Sketching at Swell Taco
Well I realized that I had only 3 stamped pastel panels so I started an 8×10 oil today…..it’s still in progress so I won’t be showing that one yet. Instead, here is the sketch I did at Swell Taco PGSB night in Patchogue. We sketched the hostess, Britt, in a taco costume and we gotContinue reading “Sketching at Swell Taco”
I will sketch for ice cream!
One of the Paint the Great South Bay’s mini challenges was a sketch hour at Kilwin’s of Patchogue. The owner, John, offered the PGSB artists a free ice cream in trade for a sketch in his shop. Hell yeah! I was there, John and I have been on a strict eating and exercise plan butContinue reading “I will sketch for ice cream!”
Sketches from the past two days
I attended the Festival del Amor last evening in Patchogue. It was a very nice event with various activities but the highlight for me was the flamenco dancers….I don’t normally have a chance to sketch them so last evening was a treat….it’s not easy to sketch moving targets so J am only posting two ofContinue reading “Sketches from the past two days”
Alive After Five #4 2017
This evening was the last Alive After Five for the season….there was no model this evening so I was finally able to sketch this purple truck…..I meant to add more people to the sketch but it got dark pretty quickly….it isn’t a food truck, it’s clothes on wheels….
Some more sketches from the USk Symposium in Chicago
These sketches were loose or in different sketchbooks from my last posts… This first sketch was done in my morning pages as I was waiting for my flight for Chicago. I got up so early that I had to do my morning routine at the airport. There was another flight boarding at my gate. TheseContinue reading “Some more sketches from the USk Symposium in Chicago”
Urban Sketcher Symposium Final Day’s Sketches
This morning, I sketched the top of the Congress Hotel. It’s a cool sign and it glows brightly when lit in the evening and I enjoyed the challenge of sketching it this morning. Then I moved on to sketch Lake Michigan. I couldn’t leave Chicago without sketching the lake! I was surprised how green itContinue reading “Urban Sketcher Symposium Final Day’s Sketches”
Urban sketchers Symposium Day 2
The sketch subject below is on Congress Pkwy just East of Michigan Ave. This sculpture is beautiful. It is designed as a trellis for vines so that her skirt will fill out with plant life…so far, she just has a few leaves. I moved on to the Plaza where the native American sculpture was holdingContinue reading “Urban sketchers Symposium Day 2”
International Urban sketchers Symposium – Chicago Days 1 & 2
So here I am in Chicago, sketching with 575 other artists from 34 countries around the world. I am sitting at Congress and Michigan Ave while I am typing this, before I start another sketch. Here are a few photos of some of the sketches that I did. I am meeting people from all overContinue reading “International Urban sketchers Symposium – Chicago Days 1 & 2”
Alive After Five #2
Here are some sketches from AA5 last night. John and I had dinner at Gallo and I sketched the patrons first. Then I walked down to where Zoe and Fantasia were posing for us. Fantasia, the boa constrictor, stopped people dead in their tracks. I wish I could have captured their expressions but it happensContinue reading “Alive After Five #2”
